MARCH 2007
Friday 16th: Recce trip to Folkestone with HIVE team, to explore a networking development of the Marvelo Project , for opening at Folkestone Sculpture Triennale, curated by Andrea Schleiker May 2008.
Inspired by Radio Cycle, 2003, the Marvelo project will be activated by a collaboration between a group of young Folkestone residents and Kaffe, to make a suite of works for radios, maps and bicycles, carried played and performed by visitors to Folkestone during hte 3 month exhibition. The group will explore routes, mapping personal histories within the context of the town, scoring new sound pieces from their stories and encounters, marking and drawing on local maps, replacing notes written on a traditional musical stave. These traces will provide routes for visitors to cycle with radios attached to their handle bars, tuned into the Marvelo frequency; the cycling participants becoming performers and passers-by accidental audience members.”

Produced
by the Serpentine Gallery through the extraordinary labours of Sally Tallant and Eva McGovern.
A revealing experience to work with real ballet dancers and fiddle for hours in the depths of Tchaikovsky. Watch out cd GiGi and thank you Tom for sports car inspiration. |

Friday 6th: solo at Opofonica 5:1 showcase, Melkweg
,Amsterdam. NL
The Optofinica
showcase is part of 5
days-off Festival,
also featuring,
Kanta Horio and Frank
Bretschneider.
Kaffe performs live new audiovisual work Mount
Magnet 21.00h , 25mins and Melt Inevitable, 20.00h.
Fantastic to make music for predetermined visuals as site rather
than the space. A new adventure. My image material is a wind tripped
phenomenon from huge vault of material grabbed on video-8 when working
in the bush with Alan Lamb 1999. Sound material air driven Uillean
and Border pipe notes from Scottish work. Harmonic? yes. Working
with tuning? yes..
Optofonica shows work of widely differing approaches.
Inspiring to experience them in one prgramme and re-connect the
Mexico City lift team of 2006.

Sunday
15th-18th Presentation and Tutoring on Bard MFA program,
Bard College, Milton Avery Graduate School for the Arts, New York.
Tuesday 17th: 1 - 3pm. "From performance
based electroacoustic sampling to spatialized vibrational composition:
an evolution".
Unfortunately I had bicycle accident in London the night before
leaving so was tipped onto the plane from a wheelchair with a fractured
elbow and knee like a melon so that combined with jetlag, lecture
giving time the next day was not as had been anticipated. Thanks
to Marina Rosenfeld for the invitation, David Behrman, Maryanne
Amacher, George Lewis and Barbara Esse for inspiring company.
Having stayed away for 3 years, it was good to be back and having
decided to, strangely bearable to finally acquiesce and hand over
iris scans and finger prints to the US government. |

Wednesday 19th - 27th: In residence in New York
to make "Viewing_1", a stereo work for the World Financial
Plaza.(WFP)
Developed walking and mapping technique for score making initialized
through London May Taxi Commission. However, damaged bike accident
knee and site shockingly being the WFP rather than Battery Park
as had been agreed, resulted in a much more static and observatory
role in both picture and sound.
Financiers on lunch breaks and enthusiastic tourists
combined with residents and dogs working out in this soul-less corporate
nothing space of hard surfaces: I worked with sky searching clouds
of horns and strings and glass bent tones indented by snippets of
eavesdropping. Inspiring to be wokring small in headphones and stereo
for ear listening whilst walking rather than bum rubbing whilst
lying.
For Public Sounds Exhibition, 15th to 20th August 2007. A
Roulette commission.
Festival Launches August 4th. more

Gallery Pavilion 2007, London.
7 - 9pm. Tickets £8/£6.

Haswell, Hans Johannson, and Kjetil Thorsen
This event explores the architecture of the Pavilion through vibration,
tone, duration and sound investigated in its most basic form: the

create a sonic laboratory by devising and performing hand-held experiments
that explore the physicality of the space through the bodily and
psychological perception of sound.

bau folded in my luggage.

22nd: off to Huddersfield to perform a version of sight
with MIMEO
at the Huddersfield
Contemporary Music Festival.
Bates Mill, The Blending Shed, 10pm.
we play 1,5h SIGHT in complete darkness. each of
us playing a total of seven and a half minutes over the ninety.
no second set. laptoppers have to set up their systems to be able
to play with no screen.audioplayermember playsSame rules as on the
album, just a bit streched out. I don't think we should go for a
2nd set, in order to keep the impression as clear as possible. Imo
it could even work for the laptoppers to play without screen. This
makes a unique MIMEO performance and a wonderful test for this great
concept. all eleven members of MIMEO can make it: played in the
middle of an eleven channel d+b sound sytem, the audience surrounding
us, each player using one speaker except Kaffe who had a stereo
pair spread behind and across the circle.
